Force Facts - The Empire Wears Prada

Welcome to the first episode of our new segment where we give you a "fun" fact about Star Wars every Tuesday!

00:00:24 --> 00:00:27 Welcome to the Force Unscripted's lexicon of
00:00:27 --> 00:00:31 weird force facts where we bring you a fact of
00:00:31 --> 00:00:34 the week about Star Wars. You'll be able to get
00:00:34 --> 00:00:38 your Force Unscripted fact fix every Tuesday
00:00:38 --> 00:00:41 when we drop our episodes. This week's fact is
00:00:41 --> 00:00:44 going to be about a new hope. Did you guys know
00:00:44 --> 00:00:48 that the idea that Darth Vader is mortally wounded
00:00:48 --> 00:00:50 and needs a suit to survive was an afterthought?
00:00:51 --> 00:00:54 The original reason why Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers
00:00:54 --> 00:00:56 are wearing those suits is because they had to
00:00:56 --> 00:00:58 pass through the vacuum of space when they entered
00:00:58 --> 00:01:00 the blockade runner at the beginning of A New
00:01:00 --> 00:01:03 Hope. And so that's the real reason why they
00:01:03 --> 00:01:06 originally started like that. I think that that
00:01:06 --> 00:01:09 is. Well, knowing what I know, I think that that
00:01:09 --> 00:01:12 is just in some scenarios slightly better than
00:01:12 --> 00:01:16 Anakin's master turning him into, as Hunter put
00:01:16 --> 00:01:18 it, a pocket pussy. And then he has to be Robo
00:01:18 --> 00:01:21 -Man from then on. But, you know, I kind of like
00:01:21 --> 00:01:23 the fact because we get the whole Obi -Anni series
00:01:23 --> 00:01:25 and stuff because of that. I still think it's
00:01:25 --> 00:01:27 kind of cool that they had it as like a like
00:01:27 --> 00:01:29 a there was like a practical reasoning behind
00:01:29 --> 00:01:31 it, you know. I think it's really cool that like
00:01:31 --> 00:01:34 all the armor concepts that we see in Star Wars,
00:01:34 --> 00:01:37 including, of course, my favorite Mandalorian
00:01:37 --> 00:01:39 armor, probably came from the idea that, hey,
00:01:39 --> 00:01:41 maybe they don't want to suffocate in space.
00:01:42 --> 00:01:44 guess we'll just give them some some pressurized
00:01:44 --> 00:01:47 armor and then it became a whole empire's uh
00:01:47 --> 00:01:51 uniform and vader's like the aspect of terror
00:01:51 --> 00:01:55 that he he provides to the on screen is you know
00:01:55 --> 00:01:57 all all based off his armor i think that's really
00:01:57 --> 00:01:59 cool you want to know what i think is really
00:01:59 --> 00:02:02 cool why the fact that in a small mini episode
00:02:02 --> 00:02:05 about a fun fact about vader stormtroopers and
00:02:05 --> 00:02:07 the new hope you still somehow managed to sneak
00:02:07 --> 00:02:10 your mandalorian boner into the segment oh yeah
00:02:10 --> 00:02:14 i did boy Red means bad. Red means bad. Red means
00:02:14 --> 00:02:17 bad. I'm always going to throw it in there. You
00:02:17 --> 00:02:19 want to talk about armor? Let's talk about Beskar.
00:02:19 --> 00:02:21 No, no, we're good. We're good. Well, I mean,
00:02:21 --> 00:02:24 circling back to, you know, Vader actually going
00:02:24 --> 00:02:26 into the blockade runner. How does it just being
00:02:26 --> 00:02:28 like a space suit incorporate his labored breathing
00:02:28 --> 00:02:30 in the hallway? Does it mean like that's like
00:02:30 --> 00:02:33 one of the best scenes? But still, I mean, like
00:02:33 --> 00:02:34 the stormtroopers aren't making that fucking
00:02:34 --> 00:02:36 sound. Well, I mean, like distinguishment, right?
00:02:36 --> 00:02:38 Like he's the big bad. The big bad gotta have
00:02:38 --> 00:02:39 extra stuff. I mean, it's like one of the most
00:02:39 --> 00:02:42 iconic scenes. His labored breathing. in a dark
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 hallway you know what speaking about his labor
00:02:45 --> 00:02:47 breathing one thing that i want to mention about
00:02:47 --> 00:02:50 vader is how fucking extra he is because if you
00:02:50 --> 00:02:53 watch rogue one and the scene like at the end
00:02:53 --> 00:02:55 he's in the hallway with the rebels with the
00:02:55 --> 00:02:58 lights off and then all of a sudden his like
00:02:58 --> 00:03:00 respirator starts that means that motherfucker
00:03:00 --> 00:03:03 had to turn it off walk into the darkness and
00:03:03 --> 00:03:05 then turn it back on just to scare the shit out
00:03:05 --> 00:03:07 of some rebels i think that's funny that's that's
00:03:07 --> 00:03:09 vader being extra where he just held his breath
00:03:09 --> 00:03:11 for you know dramatic effect that's still extra
00:03:11 --> 00:03:13 you're the dark lord of the sith why are you
00:03:13 --> 00:03:16 holding your breath i mean vader's pretty pretty
00:03:16 --> 00:03:19 goes extra quite a few times you know just be
00:03:19 --> 00:03:20 standing in the middle of space with his cape
00:03:20 --> 00:03:22 billowing in the wind oh i was just about to
00:03:22 --> 00:03:25 mention that like the fact that he had to use
00:03:25 --> 00:03:29 the force to make his cape billow In response
00:03:29 --> 00:03:32 to your comment about the stormtroopers not like
00:03:32 --> 00:03:34 breathing like that, Din Djarin does when he
00:03:34 --> 00:03:36 goes on the planet of Mandalore to like check
00:03:36 --> 00:03:39 the quality of the air. He has like a very similar
00:03:39 --> 00:03:42 sounding breathing aspirator. I actually didn't
00:03:42 --> 00:03:43 know that. I don't remember that scene. It's
00:03:43 --> 00:03:48 season three, episode one or two. Is it like
00:03:48 --> 00:03:50 when he first goes to Mandalore? Yeah. Are all
00:03:50 --> 00:03:54 Mandalorian helmets sealed to vacuum or from
00:03:54 --> 00:03:58 vacuum? Yes. So in Legends, they are sealed.
00:03:58 --> 00:04:00 when the helmet is on absolutely in canon it
00:04:00 --> 00:04:04 seems more like it's a um activation but they
00:04:04 --> 00:04:07 can be sealed immediately like but through activation
00:04:07 --> 00:04:11 din steps like He turns it on and then you hear
00:04:11 --> 00:04:12 him breathing through the aspirator and then
00:04:12 --> 00:04:14 he steps out of his ship. But in Legends, they
00:04:14 --> 00:04:17 were always sealed. You know what I don't understand
00:04:17 --> 00:04:20 about Vader's suit? Why didn't he have internal
00:04:20 --> 00:04:23 comms the same way the stormtroopers and clone
00:04:23 --> 00:04:25 troopers had? He probably didn't talk to anybody.
00:04:25 --> 00:04:28 I guess that's true. All right, guys, that has
