Welcome to our first week of a new segment called Let's Talk Legends with our special guest Bill! He's a long time fan of Star Wars (longer than the boys have been alive even) who is excited to share his take on the fabled X-Wing Series!

[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_04]: What's up guys and welcome back to the Force Unscripted. Today we have a special guest for you, my friend Bill.

[00:00:06] [SPEAKER_04]: He is an expert on legends just like we are. He's read all the books.

[00:00:10] [SPEAKER_04]: Today we have a new segment that we're doing called Let's Talk Legends.

[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk fucking legends.

[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_04]: Would you shut the fuck up so we can start?

[00:00:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know what we're gonna talk about.

[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Well you better get your fucking shit together and-

[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_02]: You did so much your fucking legends.

[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Do you have an idea? Do we have anything to go with?

[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_04]: I like X-Wings.

[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_02]: X-Wings?

[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_04]: X-Wings.

[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, sure.

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_02]: X-Wing, yeah.

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_02]: That's what we're doing.

[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Legend shit. Okay.

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited.

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I just finished.

[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I read all of them like not even two months ago so it's still fresh.

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually started redoing them about March of this year.

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It was my spring reading this year.

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Where are you at right now?

[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Did you finish?

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm stuck on Ice Arch Revenge, which is where I usually kind of get stuck on when I try to read them.

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's just because for me it follows a lot of the...

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: One of the big complaints that I have about it, the series is just how cartoonish the big bads are.

[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And the way-

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Ice Arch Revenge is seven or eight?

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It's eight.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_02]: I know what you're talking about.

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's the one where they bring the Ice Arch back as the clone because she got killed by Tycho.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: That shit was so dumb.

[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And it falls into Stackpole turning into Michael Stackpole style of writing where there's got to be a Mary Sue in the story.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And Corrin really starts to manifest his I'm a Jedi out of nowhere powers.

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And I came from Stackpole from when he wrote for Battle Tech.

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Then he left writing Battle Tech mid-90s to go work on Rogue Squadron.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And the first couple books were pretty solid.

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: The third book he started to get more into the Corrin nonsense.

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And then the fourth book he pulled back and then five through seven they switch over to Wraith.

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And for me, I prefer the Wraith books out of the series.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Really?

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I think they're better.

[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I really do.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'll say that that's that's excluding Starfighters because Starfighter is just a fun.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: That's...

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Starfighters of Atomar?

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes!

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes!

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Starfighters of Atomar is there just to be a fun story.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the it is it's the equivalent of Star Trek IV where we're just going to have a silly story and we're going to we're going to make it work.

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's just a fun book.

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Can we talk about that one first?

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Now that one it's been a while since I've read Starfighter so I'm a little rusty on it, but I remember like the whole parade sequence with Wedge, Hobby, West and Tycho.

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And just the interaction between the four of them is just I mean that's that's what that's what made the book was just the way he would make them play off of each other.

[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Of those four who's your favorite?

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to know because I have I've loved all these books.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I always wanted to know more about these characters, but I was so caught up with finishing like the main series of the Legends timelines that I've left.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I've left these till last like I've only got like seven more books and then I'm done with all of legends.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_02]: But like I saved these last and I was so excited to like finally learn about like some of these supporting characters who I always wanted more like because they were in those main stories.

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_02]: But like this is like their glory years and I'm so like I'm so happy like read about them.

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_02]: So I want to know of those four who is your favorite?

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_00]: My favorite is probably West Jansen because he's just so snarky.

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The stunt he pulled on Wedge where he made Wedge actually fly a TIE fighter with a stuff he walk in his lap.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yov, yov commander!

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Yov, yov.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yov, yov commander.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: So Wedge's story is pretty pretty well fleshed out.

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He's more than just the guy who's in both the movies for about 10 minutes with a headshot where he's in a fighter.

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So for him, you know, you got him fleshed out already and he's an approachable, you know, the Maverick kind of character except he's approachable.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want to recognition for himself.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: He just wants his guys to come home alive.

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But the other three, you know, hobby can't keep an X week under him to save his life.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, that that's that and that was that was something they kind of made a joke of in Starfighters is how often hobby crashes or it gets shot down.

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Tycho again, you know, he's he's a fairly well fleshed out character.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_00]: But just other ones that I like.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I like Jansen the best because he he's just entirely irreverent.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Wedge's revenge for the Ewok was he ends up going into the the officer's quarters basically buck naked in front of everybody.

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. And he took that.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, this is my punishment.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, this is your punishment.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I did it.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, no other four West is probably my favorite.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. Okay. When she what about you?

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Who's your favorite of the four?

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, I'm gonna be real here.

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_04]: It's been like 15 years since I read these books.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so what did you prepare?

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Apparently my memory is not as good as I thought it was going to be.

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, you know what?

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but you read but you've read their other stuff too.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_02]: So you could still have a favorite because they come up and like faded all the series.

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_02]: So they never leave the story so you can still have another.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. So that's bullshit.

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the race follow all the way through like second galactic civil war, I think.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. Give me a sec. Okay.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Give me a sec. You go.

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. Pressure pressure unscripted.

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Come on.

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't need it.

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Unscripted now you go give me shit about unscripted unscripted bitch.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Come on, go.

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_04]: That's my point.

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go with wedge as long as okay.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_02]: He did it.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_02]: He gave an answer.

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_04]: We're going to give him.

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_02]: I was going to make you apologize.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_04]: We're going.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Look, man, I was trying to do some prep before this and then my parents showed up and it got distracted.

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_04]: And now my prep's all out the window.

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Excuses excuses.

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to get mine possibly controversial pick.

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how we feel.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how cool honestly it does not matter who you pick from this group.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_02]: They're like the elite of the lead when I, when I think of like, you know, fighter pilots and people who were just good at fucking war.

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Like honestly, oh easily. Yeah.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. So my answer is Tyco actually goes through some shit in like in he does go through some shit.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, and I mean, like I understand and the coincidences were so fucking just against him.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Like a poor poor man never stood a chance but like wedge always went to bat for him.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: He proved himself in the end.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Like no questions asked did not slip up.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Did not falter.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_02]: So I can have nothing but respect for that.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And then he's got like innate regality of just being a surviving Alderanian.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Like that's that's another like just plus room there for me.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_02]: So I don't get me wrong.

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I love my Karelians.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I really do.

[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I promise I do, but like that Alderanian badasses, you know, like for the most part, like you got Bale and you got him and you got Leia and then, you know, there's some other people, but like they're just not in legends.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_02]: What what's the what's up?

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_02]: What's Reynars family, whatever they're Alderanians.

[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_02]: They have like a trading company.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't really fuck with them, but like Alderanians are typically, you know, pretty fucking cool.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_02]: The ones that are aren't spaced us at least rest in peace.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Right.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Too soon, I think.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: We're almost see been many moon at this point.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't do that right now.

[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_04]: What are we like 15 years into Disney's reign now?

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_04]: God, has it been that long?

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it has been that long.

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Are we still getting over tragedies from the 70s because you know, Star Wars?

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, some some some folks probably still are, but you know, they're the ones that realize what happened right after we faded to black at the end of empire too.

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I still can't believe that the film bros did not choose empire as the best of the Star Wars movies.

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I just I don't understand that.

[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Did you listen to that podcast?

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I didn't.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't hear that one, but that's flat out categorically wrong.

[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And I won't say that about a lot of things, but saying empire is not the best the best movie now.

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I get the Vader argument at the end of Rogue One.

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_02]: They didn't even argue Rogue One.

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they didn't even argue Rogue One.

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Like their top one wasn't even in their list.

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_02]: The top three was like predominantly sequel movies from a film bro perspective, by the way.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, I'm glad they have that opinion.

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily share it, but no, I'll be honest, none of the sequel movies are are even in the top of any of my list.

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_04]: The sequels aren't even in the top nine.

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_04]: I think there's only one left.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how you all feel about Solo.

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: There are those who will give me shit about the fact that I did like Solo because I was there at the beginning.

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I was five years old when a new hope came out and I saw it in the theater.

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Damn, you old old.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it was I am old old.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen a lot of Star Wars has passed behind me.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_00]: To me, Solo was just kind of a whole.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a love letter for the original trilogy fans and that's all it was supposed to be.

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: There's not some cringy parts to it, but overall I like Solo and in the heist movie, I thought Solo was a good heist movie also.

[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: We're not talking like Ocean's Eleven or anything like that.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: But for Andorra, you know?

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or Andorra, yeah.

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, it kind of gave them a practice run at a heist movie.

[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, to that, I thought it was good at what it did.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: And you know, they're never just like Solo.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Like I thought it was like you said a good love letter.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_04]: Like I grew up on the original trilogy and so, you know, seeing all the backstory, how he met Chewie, that kind of stuff.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Like that was great for me.

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, these kids these days were like, you know, they're growing up on the sequels and they think everything,

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_04]: all the old stuff is horrible and it's like half the new stuff is just copy pasted.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Literally, even George Lucas himself said that fucking The Force Awakens is a copy paste of a new hope.

[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_04]: And like if the guy who made the thing himself is saying you plagiarized his work,

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_04]: maybe listen to him a little bit. I don't know.

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_00]: The only reason that I, you know, the only argument that I would really accept of one of the other movies being better than Empire is the Vader's scene at the end of Rogue One.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that for even for people who had never, that was their first experience of a Star Wars movie in a theater and seeing Vader's like.

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_02]: That should make no sense.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: That's the only, that is Anakin Skywalker being petty. That is what that Vader scene is.

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_02]: There ain't no fucking air in space. How is his cape moving?

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, that's just how strong the Force he is.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, exactly. That motherfucker is using the Force to flex his cape for zero fucking reason except for to be dramatic.

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_02]: That's Anakin Skywalker. That wasn't Darth Vader.

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_00]: To be fair, you know, you got to remember the time that Anakin, you know, used the Force to feed fruit to Padme.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_00]: True, true.

[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Bro, the fucking, I mean like the scene before that too, he's being extra too.

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_02]: He is not breathing to scare some bitches. Like you don't just, a respirator is not something you just suddenly hear.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_02]: It's always going. He either held his breath or flipped the switch for a little bit and turned that shit off.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And then turned it back on to scare the fuck out of them as he turned on his lightsaber. That is so extra.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Dude, if I'm the Dark Lord of the Sith, right? And I know that there's absolutely no contest.

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Of course I'm going to be doing some extra shit too. Like I'd be bored out my mind like slap blaster, slap blaster, slap blaster, choke dude, crush dude.

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_04]: Of course I'm going to be like, wait, wait, watch this. Let me make a dope ass entrance.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean and if you want to critique what you know, there was no point to force lifting the guy up to the ceiling to cut him in half.

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_00]: That was just, you know, it was just bad ass.

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_02]: It was terror, yes.

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_04]: He was literally just like, how much can I do?

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I love it. I love it. But it's extras fuck.

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, totally.

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_02]: We got so far off a fucking X-wing.

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, okay, it's unscripted.

[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_02]: It's unscripted exactly. That's why I love it.

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_02]: It's an excuse for ADHD. Great naming scheme.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And besides I can ramble for a long time on almost any given Star Wars subject.

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I can ramble for a while on it.

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_04]: As can we.

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, as can we. Sounds like it's French.

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_02]: As can we.

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I thought that was a Kaminoan that I didn't know the name of.

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_02]: It's the boots.

[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_02]: We already got the gloves.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_04]: You know that reference bill?

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Have you read the Republic Commando novels?

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I never did the Republic Commando.

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_02]: No, do it. Just take our word on that one. Do it.

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_04]: That's my favorite series from Legends.

[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_04]: I've re-read it like at least 15 times.

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_04]: It's why I love Mandalorian so much that that series is...

[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I've got them. I just I've never read them.

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_04]: There's the four Republic Commando books and then one Imperial Commando book.

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_04]: And then some of those characters, you've read bloodlines and stuff later on,

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_04]: like Fate of the Jedi, that kind of thing, right?

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Some of those characters show up.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Kadika and Muriel, when Boba is doing his whole arc to figure out how to save himself

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_04]: because he's sick or whatever.

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Barred into?

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the characters that he talks to are from the Republic Commando books.

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, very good background, very great story in itself too.

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Very sad story, very sad.

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Super sad man.

[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I started by...

[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_04]: And you haven't even read that?

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I started.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh you did? Okay.

[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be done by... give me Thursday. I'll be done.

[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Dude, I...

[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_02]: When you finish it...

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_04]: When you call me crying, don't even say anything.

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I'll be like, I know brother.

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_04]: I know...

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I hope you know I am going to call.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_02]: If you get a call from me, answer it.

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_02]: That's all I'm going to say.

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I'll answer.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so because Disney bought it around the time that the writer was finishing up that series build,

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_04]: there's one or two wrap-up books that were never made.

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_04]: So you get some of that story later on, like I said, in Fate of the Jedi and stuff,

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_04]: or the one before that.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_04]: And then there was another author that took her notes of what she said,

[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_04]: what would have happened, and changed it up a little bit

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_04]: and wrote 15 different fan fiction books for various things that weren't wrapped up in the Legends series.

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_04]: And I read the one that wrapped up all those character storylines

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_04]: and it is such a good book and I hate every second of it.

[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_04]: I hate what happened to all my favorite characters.

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_04]: It's got like, you know, Callista and the whole Eye of Palpatine thing.

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Like it's got...

[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it has like how she ended up as the force ghost in the machine kind of deal.

[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_04]: It has like her story there.

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_04]: It has stuff about Pallaean in it.

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_04]: It wraps up those characters and...

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh Captain, oh Captain.

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_04]: It was such a good book and like I said,

[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_04]: I hated every second of reading it because it was just so irreverent to all my favorite characters.

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and unfortunately I never read that many of the Vong war books.

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_00]: No!

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_02]: No, you were so good until you fucking opened your mouth just now.

[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Go back and read those books or else the monkey gets it.

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_02]: And by the monkey I mean when she...

[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean I pretty much know that because you know,

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I read the New Jedi Order.

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I read the series after that where Jason fell.

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Then of course New Jedi Order where Jaina kills Jason.

[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, New Jedi Order is the Vong.

[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Wait, what's the ones after the Vong?

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Legacy of the Force.

[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Legacy of the Force and then Fate of the Jedi, yeah.

[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Fate of the Jedi.

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I was thinking it was the Fate of the Jedi.

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, but those...

[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I read those two books which, you know,

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_00]: J.J. Abrams did a terrible job of adapting into the sequels.

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean you're gonna take one of the few good things that I'm not gonna get into.

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna do it.

[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_00]: No, get into it.

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what we're here for.

[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_00]: No, because then we're not gonna get back around to the Squadron books.

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_00]: That's okay.

[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It's unscripted.

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, no, but you know, when I talked about, you know,

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I brought up at the start that one of my critiques of the X-Wing books

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_00]: is the cartoonishness of the bad guys.

[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And that part of it they nailed in the sequels

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_00]: of all the cartoonishly bad BBEGs that you had in Anywhere in the World.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Two brain cells, you use an acronym, explain.

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Big Bad Evil Guy.

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Big Bad Evil Guy, yes.

[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, me like, small words go big phrase.

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I run a lot of Dungeons and Dragons, so it's a common nickname for the evil guy.

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_00]: But the inability to write a good bad guy is, I think,

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_00]: one of the things that Mandalorian has kind of fixed this somewhat

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_00]: in terms of just the storytelling of Star Wars recently is that

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_00]: a lot of the good guys, or a lot of the bad guys just aren't well written.

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_00]: They're not good bad guys.

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And you know, that's one thing that I kind of liked about the Wraith books

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: is you had to throw back to Soontre-Fells back.

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you didn't read the Rogue Squadron comic books,

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: you're kind of going like, who the hell is Soontre-Fells?

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And then as they go through it, they explain to us like,

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_00]: okay, this guy married Wedge's sister.

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh, okay, there's an awkward Thanksgiving.

[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Wedge's sister was Cy all right?

[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Starfire I think.

[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Totally original, you know, 90s Starlet name.

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, Starfire.

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_00]: But then if you do what?

[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_00]: What is Starfire?

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Her stage surname.

[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, is that what it was?

[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, Starfire was her.

[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh shit, I learned something new.

[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Damn, let's go.

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I might have known that I just forgot,

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_02]: but it wasn't, I was like, what the fuck are y'all talking about?

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I got you.

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And then if you get back into like the Rogue Squadron comics

[00:19:04] [SPEAKER_00]: that came out before the novels did,

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_00]: and you see and you learn who this guy is,

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: it's like he's the Imperial version of Wedge

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_00]: who may actually be better than Wedge,

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: because Wedge has shields and this dude's flying around in a squint

[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and he's still alive and Wedge is flying in an X-wing

[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_00]: that's protected with several shields.

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_00]: He was flying in a what?

[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_01]: He was flying in a what?

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Why was he flying in?

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I was just like right back.

[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_01]: He was flying in a what?

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: See, see, I'm justified.

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not racist.

[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_04]: We did a force fact not too long ago, Bill,

[00:19:43] [SPEAKER_04]: where Tay was talking about the names of the TIE fighters

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_04]: and when he was like, one of them was called a squint.

[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_04]: We were all like, that sounds a little edgy there, my dude.

[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't even think about that.

[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, wait what?

[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And they just, they fucking tried to clown me for it.

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I'm not racist.

[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_02]: It's what's in the books.

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, I just thread it, but I don't remember eyeballs.

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_00]: No, eyeballs are TIE fighter, squints or interceptors.

[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Dupes of ours.

[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Dupes, that's what it was.

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Dupes for bombers, yeah.

[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And then we're not going to get into all the ugliest and shit like that.

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh god, not the ugliest.

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of those were just like, okay, you're just really reaching

[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_00]: to throw a TIE cockpit on something at this point.

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Bro, the fucking X-wing with the TIE fighter solar panels makes me laugh.

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_02]: It's based still though.

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_02]: This is basically what it is.

[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_00]: And so you take the visibility that an X-wing has

[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and put TIE panels around it so you can't see up the size of it.

[00:20:43] What?

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm like, I haven't even envisioned it, but I'm looking at it right now.

[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm like, what the hell man?

[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh dude, have you seen the ugly's chart?

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_04]: No, hold on.

[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh please look up that image.

[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you should check that out for some of the nonsense

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_00]: that's come out over the years.

[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Show me, send it to me takes because I don't, what am I like,

[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_04]: ugly's.

[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, here we go.

[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_04]: I found it.

[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I see like a Lego one, I think of it.

[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Excepter, the TIE wing, the XY wing brute, the Bucharest.

[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_00]: What?

[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean you also can't forget your important TIE tank.

[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, see I didn't even know about that one.

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they took treads and put it on the ball of a TIE fighter.

[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Amazing.

[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_04]: The Empire does such great things, right?

[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Fuck, I can't find this chart anymore.

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_02]: There used to be a chart of like all the ugliest, like next to each other.

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_00]: But there's the beauty of the TIE tank.

[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Amazing.

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Beautiful.

[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_04]: That's flawless.

[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know how you could hate that at all.

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_04]: It's the best thing I've ever seen.

[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_04]: I drive that tank.

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Bro, it's like a Lansford.

[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no actually and that actually is New Canin too apparently it is.

[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay.

[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Was it in the cartoons?

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_04]: I guess.

[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's on me.

[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_00]: It looks like it's from a comic.

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Okay, yeah, that makes sense.

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Ponsha look at this.

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_04]: I got a whole, I got a whole, oh these.

[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Okay, okay.

[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you what I'm looking at.

[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Excepter.

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Okay, yeah, look at what I found.

[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Somebody made them all in Legos.

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I saw that set, yeah.

[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, somebody made all these in Legos.

[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Bro, the Excepter is so fucking dumb.

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_04]: The Excepter.

[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I kinda like the TIE wing.

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna lie actually.

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_04]: That was the stupidest one.

[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, because imagine, imagine, there were no shields.

[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_02]: You catch one stray, you explode.

[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's like it's over.

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_02]: How does the BB wing work?

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh God.

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And not only that, but if you're in the Ex TIE, you've got no cannons so you just basically

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_00]: have your proton launchers and so your six shots are done.

[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_04]: You might as well just make it, nah, you've got seven shots built.

[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_04]: You know what that seventh shot is.

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean yeah, your fighter itself.

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.

[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_04]: It's shaped like a torpedo.

[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_04]: We'll use it like one.

[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you guys, everyone for tuning in.

[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_02]: This was a nice little talk about legends with our pal Bill here.

[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_02]: As you know, Wynchie and I are like legends compared to exotic.

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Like exotic doesn't know shit about legends really and that's some of our me and Wynchie's

[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_02]: favorite stories and so to have someone else to talk to it with is actually really awesome.

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much for your time man.

[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate you being here too.

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_02]: What was originally supposed to be about mostly X-wings and being just kind of about X-wings.

[00:23:34] [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about it a little bit, but great stories still and thank you for talking about them with us.

[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we'll be getting Bill back so stay tuned.

[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh man.

[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I saw the man push buttons and you know, I'm a 30 year IT professional too.

[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_00]: So this is a professional.

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing a professional here.

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to come back and talk again.
